Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samer Alabed
Associate Professor and Director of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Department at the German Jordanian University (affiliated with University of Magdeburg-Stendal in Germany), Jordan.
After completing my bachelor degree in electrical and computer engineering with evaluation 3.5 out of 4, I got a University of Jordan Graduate Assistantship from 2003 to 2005. In the electrical engineering department of the University of Jordan and during 2003 to 2005, i.) I worked on my master's studies to develop and propose advanced and new algorithms in the fields of digital signal processing, and ii.) I served as a teaching assistant where I taught and supervised electrical, electronic, computer, and communication engineering laboratories and courses. During my master’s studies, I published one Journal and two conference papers. I have graduated from the master's program in 2005 with excellent evaluation at 3.88 out of 4 and highest honours (first honours) and I was given the title of lecturer. During 2005 to 2006, I served as a lecturer and project supervisor for undergraduate engineering students at the electrical engineering department of the University of Jordan. During 2006 to 2008, I served as an instructor at Wadi Al-Sir international college, (United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), United Nations), Amman, Jordan. In 2008, I got a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarship from Germany to start my Ph.D. in electrical engineering and information technology, specifically in digital signal processing at Darmstadt University of Technology (TU-Darmstadt). In TU-Darmstadt and during 2008 to 2012, i.) I worked on my doctoral studies to develop advanced and novel digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms under research grants from LOEWE Priority Program, the European Research Council (ERC), German Research Foundation (DFG), German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and European Union (EU) Project called Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks (CROWN), ii.) I served as a lecturer for graduate and undergraduate students, and iii.) I served also as a supervisor to several PhD, MSc, and BSc theses and projects in the same program. In 2012, I got my PhD degree in electrical engineering and information technology / digital signal processing with great honour ("magna cum laude") from Darmstadt University of Technology, Darmstadt- City of Science, Germany under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Alex Gershman† and Prof. Dr.-Ing. During 2012 to 2015, I continue working at the communication systems group as a post-doctoral researcher and lecturer under several funds from DFG, ERC, and TU-Darmstadt where I taught several undergraduate and graduate courses and supervised tens of bachelor projects and master theses as well as helped in supervising PhD students. During 2015 to 2019, I worked as an assistant professor at the electrical engineering department of the American University of the Middle East (AUM), Kuwait. During 2019 to 2022, I worked as an associate professor at the electrical engineering department of the American University of the Middle East (AUM). During my seven academic years at AUM, I have been actively involved with departmental and college related work where I have taught tens of undergraduate courses and laboratories and tens of bachelor projects. I was the ABET coordinator where I served in all ABET committees such as ABET Program Assessment Committee, ABET Curriculum Development Committee, and Signal Processing Focus Group Committee. Moreover, I have prepared so many courses from scratch and several study-plans for digital communications track, biomedical engineering track, and signal processing track. I served as a coordinator for many other committees like research committee, lab committee, curriculum development committee, exam committee, graduation project committee, focus groups committee, and quality assurance committee, as well as coordinator for many engineering courses. In recognition of my diligent commitment and dedicated efforts towards my contributions and accomplishments at AUM, notably securing the full ABET accreditation without any concerns, enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, improving academic performance, as well as preparing, equipping, and designing engineering laboratories, and elevating the university's ranking both locally and globally, I received the AUM Appreciation Certificate. I was one of the co-founders of AUM and played a key role in leading it to become the top university in Kuwait according to the QS and THE Rankings, as well as achieving ABET accreditation.
From 2022 to the present, I've served as an associate professor at the German Jordanian University (GJU) where I thoroughly enjoyed and GJU has become a family away from home.

Collaborated with the Civil Service Bureau, the Jordanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in writing the comprehensive exam for Biomedical Engineering during the academic year 2022/2023.

Prepared, organized, and managed a workshop to establish a nursing program, with the participation of numerous deans from nursing colleges in Jordan, as well as representatives from various Jordanian private and government hospitals and some German entities. Technical Expertise
In my perspective, research embodies a multidisciplinary pursuit, drawing from various academic domains and involving both local and international collaborators. Since my tenure at TU-Darmstadt began in 2008, I have been dedicated to fulfilling roles as an effective educator, a distinguished researcher, and a committed contributor to the academic and engineering communities. During the last 4 years, I have published more than 30 (Q1/Q2 Scopus-indexed) journal papers and book chapters in the above fields.

I have participated in supervising several Ph.D students, tens of M.SC students, and hundreds of undergraduate students. Note that there is no Master or PhD programs in the biomedical engineering department.

I was classified during the years from 2019 to 2021 among the top 2% of the influential scientists in the field of digital signal processing in the world in the study (classification) conducted by scientists from the prestigious Stanford University and is known in the academic community as the "Stanford classification". The report is based on several factors, the most important of which are the strength of international scientific publishing, the number of scientific citations for research, and participation in reviewing and editing scientific research in reputable journals. I am an IEEE senior member and served as the head of the research committee as well as the head of one research group, i.e., the Signal Processing group. I have obtained several awards and funds from IEE, IEEE, DAAD, DFG, ERC such as the best paper award from IEEE WSA. My researches have been supported by several grants and funds from EU and German companies and research organization such as LOEWE Priority Program Cocoon, the European Research Council (ERC), German Research Foundation (DFG), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, State of Hesse, TU-Darmstadt, and European Union (EU), AUM, and GJU. Moreover, I organized and was invited to many conferences and workshops. Now I reached to 50 papers published in prestigious International Q1/Q2 Scopus-indexed Journals & conference. During 2023 and 2024, I received the following funds i.) Financial support from Ion Company of more than 20,000$ for scientific research to manufacture a medical device in 2024, ii.) Seed Research Grant with an amount of 42000$ from GJU, iii.) Obtaining a medical device as a donation from Arab Medical Laboratories Company worth 15,000 Jordanian Dinars, iv.) Preapproval for two funds from the Scientific Research Support Fund in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan by more than 150,000$.

I have served as an organizer and track chair for several International Workshops and Conferences from 2008 to 2024 such as IEEE SAM 2008, CAMUS workshop 2011-2014, CoCoon Conferences 2011-2015, IEEE/ITG 2013-2015, IEEE REM 2024, ICBME 2024. I have participated at the university level in several conferences such as (QS HIGHER ED SUMMIT: MIDDLE EAST 2024), the Higher Education Summit: Middle East, February 27-29, 2024, and the Higher Education Summit: Asia Pacific 2023, November 7-9, 2023, to promote innovation, creativity, sustainability, and excellence in education and learning. I have attended, participated in, and successfully completed numerous webinars on research and teaching. In addition, over the past two years, I have been invited to and have participated in numerous national and international conferences and workshops focused on improving academic research and education at the national level. This is a result of my position as the head of several committees for the Jordanian National Qualification Framework (JNQF), where I collaborate with other national qualification frameworks, including the Scottish Qualification Framework (SCQF). Moreover, several articles have been submitted to international conferences in 2024. Wireless Communication Systems and Networks
MIMO systems, MIMO detectors, massive MIMO systems, co-operative communications, relay networks, space-time block and trellis coding, differential and blind multi-antenna techniques, MIMO channel estimation, channel coding and modulation techniques, distributed communication systems, two-way relaying, baseband communications, 2G-3G-4G-5G mobile communication systems, multi-carrier transmission (OFDM), modeling of wireless channel characteristics, adaptive beamforming, sensor array processing, transceiver design, multi-user and multi-carrier wireless communication systems, convex optimization algorithms for signal processing communications, channel equalization, and other kinds of distortion and interference mitigation.
Statistical, Biomedical, and Digital Signal Processing
MIMO and multi-antenna communication systems (space-time block and trellis coding, beamforming, cooperative communications, distributed sensor networks, multicast and broadcast services in modern cellular networks), parameter estimation and detection, stochastic process, information theory, filter design, analyzing and processing the electromagnetic signals such as AM, FM, RF, microwave signals as well as audio, data, image, & speech processing.
Audio, Speech, and Biomedical Signal Processing
Digital, statistical, and biomedical signal processing, audio and speech signal processing, audio and speech source coding such as LPC-10, RPE, RELP, RPE-LTP, sinusoidal speech coding, harmonic speech coding ... etc, audio and speech enhancement, speech recognition, speaker identification, beamforming, noise reduction, filter design.
Software and Algorithm Development
Large knowledge and experience in developing, testing, programming, and simulating complex scientific algorithms, software, and codes using different programming languages and software like Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Assembly, Q-basic, MathCAD, Maple, Mathematica, Labview, MultiSIM, Workbench.

Teaching more than 30 courses for graduate and under-graduate students in the fields of digital & wireless communication systems, digital and statistical signal processing, electrical, electronic and computer engineering, please see below the list of courses. Supervised PhD students and over 30 master theses and so many projects in modern digital & wireless communication systems, digital and statistical signal processing, audio, speech, data, and image signal processing, cryptography, electrical and electronic circuits, and networking.
